APPEARANCE 3.5 out of 5 stars

Petite, greenish red, smooth skin roughly the size of an olive. Gorgeous bright green flesh and small black seeds.

AROMA 4 out of 5 stars

I’m not sure this is a technical word for a fragrance but it just smells fresh to me. Nice and fresh like a slightly sweet, slightly acidic spring afternoon.

TEXTURE 4 out of 5 stars

Very soft, melting flesh. Slightly grainy here and there with a noticeable seed every now and then.

TASTE 4 out of 5 stars

Tart and sweet with good acidity.

This is a fantastic kiwi. What a relief not to have to deal with all that fuzzy hair found on bigger kiwis. I love that you can just pop the entire thing in your mouth as if it is candy. In fact next year I may wrap these up and give them out at halloween to scare the parents when they go through their kid’s bag. (Yes, I am still talking about halloween even though Thanksgiving is a week away.) The acidity is balanced very well with the sweet and tart flavors. Ideally, I would drop the tartness from this little guy but many will love it as is and I wouldn’t blame them.

NOTES

Common names are Kiwiberry, Kiwi Berry, Hardy Kiwi, Baby Kiwi, Dessert Kiwi and Cocktail Kiwi. This company has a great chart of some different varieties and some explanation about naming. I am anxious to find these in other varieties as it seems the flavor can vary from the tart to sweet sides of the spectrum. Yummy. Lots of helpful info about buying and eating them here.
