I got a couple of these yesterday at the store. They prompted a LOT of comments at the checkout! The cashier wanted to know what it was so he could ring it up and the lady behind me wanted to know if it was (1) ripe, and (2) any good. I had to admit that I'd only read about them on a website but was looking forward to trying them.

Bonus: Neither the cashier nor the manager could find the code, so I got them for free! SCORE!!

And yes, they were totally delicious! I definitely got a strong hint of lemon flavor in mine, though.

I thought the yellow one was a little bit sweeter. I think the difference for ripeness is more about how loose the thing feels in its skin. If it feels like its pants are too big - its ready!

I was also surprised at the juicyness of the fruit despite the thick pith. I'll definitely try it again. Do you think there's a flavor difference in the yellow or green ugli fruit? Or does green = ripe?
