Autumn Royal Grape

October 24th, 2009 | Fruit Maven

If you wear makeup that is applied with a putty knife and I can see the orange line between your face and your neck, then this is the fruit for you!
APPEARANCE ★★★½☆

Deep purple skin on a rather large grape. Surely this size is overcompensating for something. It’s practically an inch long.

AROMA ★★☆☆☆

None

TEXTURE ★★★☆☆

Crunchy and juicy. No seeds (yay), but has a thick noticeable peel (boo)

TASTE ★★½☆☆

Peel is a little bitter. The inside of the grape is fine, but rather bland.

OVERALL ★★★☆☆

This grape really only has size going for it, which is a problem because it practically takes two bites to eat the whole thing and I don’t really want two bites of this one. I mean, its fine, but just another dull, boring grape that’s crunchy and juicy with a weirdly thick peel. Blech.

NOTES

The Autumn Royal is a very recent grape bred at the Agricultural Research Center in Fresno. It is one of very few seedless black grapes.
